I work with organisations in the non-profit and public sectors, including charities, thinktanks, campaigning organisations and public bodies. I also work with social enterprises – businesses which are about ‘more than profit’. Here’s a brief overview of some of the projects I’ve worked on.

Botanic Gardens Education Network

BGENIn 2011 the Botanic Gardens Education Network asked me to create new website content that would help people understand what plant-based education is all about. I developed a series of creative concepts in response to the brief and worked with member organisations to produce the content, which includes:

“Joanna worked for BGEN on a contract to create web content for us. She was professional and friendly throughout. What most impressed me about Joanna’s work was firstly her momentum at getting the project started and finishing off all the loose ends and secondly the quality of Joanna’s work – Joanna grasped the brief quickly and produced content that was just what we wanted.” Kate Measures, Chair Elect, Botanic Gardens Education Network

The Health Foundation

The Health FoundationI started working with The Health Foundation in 2009 when I migrated data on quality and performance from a microsite to the organisation’s main website. I’ve since worked with them regularly to edit case studies and other publications, including a case study on personal health budgets and content on patient safety campaigns around the UK.

soundinnovation

soundinnnovationIn 2011, digital media training and production company sounddelivery launched soundinnovation, a non-profit venture which develops innovative projects that tackle social isolation and give a voice to marginalised groups. I was commissioned to plan and write the content for the soundinnovation website. The content I produced includes an explanation of how soundinnovation works and a summary of the Give Us a Break project.

Notting Hill Housing

Notting Hill HousingIn November and December 2010 I worked with Notting Hill Housing to overhaul its website content, as part of a major website redevelopment project. I wrote and edited more than 100 pages, ensuring that all content was of a high standard and met the organisation’s style guidelines.

“Joanna delivered exactly what we needed. Well written website copy, on time, on budget and according to the brief. And we hope to use her again in the future.” David Saunders, Web Manager, Notting Hill Housing Trust

KnowHow NonProfit

KnowHow NonProfitI worked with the KnowHow NonProfit team from 2008-10. I edited and uploaded content including ‘how to’ guides and research papers on charity management topics.

“Jo was an invaluable member of the team who helped launch KnowHow NonProfit in 2008/2009. She helped prepare a significant proportion of the content for launch, repurposing it from lengthy Word documents into accessible, usable and useful web pages. Her knowledge of the sector was a big asset as was her ability to transform dull tables / graphics into works of art. She was easy to work with and I could always rely on her to get jobs done quickly.” Madeleine Sugden, Content Manager, KnowHow NonProfit

sounddelivery

sounddeliveryIn 2009 I helped digital media training and production company sounddelivery launch a new website. I planned the content structure, edited existing content and wrote new content for the site. I worked with them again in 2011 to refresh the website content, including writing about sounddelivery’s approach to training and editing case studies to bring to life the work sounddelivery does for its clients.

“I commissioned Jo to bring to life the copy we had written for our revamped website. She was fantastic to work with and delivered high quality copy that surpassed my expectations and more than brought to life the work we do.” Jude Habib, Founder and Creative Director, sounddelivery

CABE – the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment

CABEAs a member of CABE’s freelance writers and editors panel, I regularly produced content for the CABE website (archived in March 2011). My work included producing case study and publication summaries and developing the content for a good practice guide to green space apprenticeships.

NESTA

NESTAI wrote and edited content for the NESTA website from 2007-2009, producing case studies, opinion articles and research summaries on topics ranging from creative entrepreneurship to climate change and from education to collaborative innovation. My work included:

“We’ve been nothing less than impressed with Joanna’s work. Her knack for writing compelling copy along with her careful attention to detail, flexibility and willingness to tackle challenging work has resulted in a strong working relationship, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone else. Joanna’s ability to quickly get her head around any brief and her cheerful personality mean that she’s always our first point of call for any copywriting work.” Michelle Millar, formerly Editor -  Corporate Communications, NESTA

Enterprise UK

Enterprise UKI worked with Enterprise UK  from 2007-2010. I acted as interim web editor and helped recruit two new members of the web team, then was commissioned to write a series of case studies on inspiring entrepreneurs.

“We’ve worked with Joanna on a variety of things and wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again. She is very clear and concise and I trust her implicitly to deliver results.” Hannah Bourne, formerly Communications Manager, Enterprise UK

National College for School Leadership

National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's ServicesI worked with the web team at the National College for School Leadership during a major website redevelopment project in 2009, writing new content on topics including sustainable schools and succession planning. I also produced publication summaries and edited case studies to fit the organisation’s new content guidelines.

“Joanna worked with us to write new content for our website and edit existing content to new content type definitions. Nothing daunted her and her approach is thorough: once she’s clarified any issues in the brief, she delivers exactly what’s needed, on time. She was very engaged with the subject/content we were asking her to write about, which also filled us with confidence. We will definitely use her skills again.” Sara Head, Website Manager, National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services

Engaging Places

Engaging PlacesI provided editorial and content management support for the Engaging Places website - an educational initiative from English Heritage and CABE - throughout 2009, editing content in line with house style guidelines and adding it to the website content management system.
